Bea Leopold
Bea Leopold joined APAI as Interim Executive Director in December 2006.
She holds a master’s degree in Communications from Rowen University and has 25+ years experience in association management and leadership. She has devoted her career to serving the not-for-profit community, predominantly providing strategic and mission-directed leadership and management services.
Prior to her current appointment with APAI, she served from 1987 – 2005 as Executive Director of the National Society of Genetic Counselors. Other associations she has served or consulted with are New England Regional Genetics Group (NERGG), Genetic and Metabolic Dietitians International (GMDI), American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) and Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA).
Most recently, she served as a Board Member on Biosis, which, during her tenure, transformed from an abstract publisher to a $30+m foundation dedicated to preserving biodiversity in Africa and other Third World countries.
The hallmark of Leopold’s leadership style is building a sturdy volunteer/staff partnership. Whether working with strong, vocal, visionary leaders or quiet, behind-the-scenes, “To-Do List” personalities, she recognizes that the strength of the volunteer/staff team has a direct-value ratio to the advancement of the vision and mission of the association and the fulfillment of the volunteer leaders.
