Target Audience
All Parole/Early Release Board Members and their staff, as well as mental health, community corrections, jail and reentry professionals working with prison populations. Membership in APAI is not required for this training.
Trainer
Stanley E. Adelman is a law professor and liability prevention trainer and consultant. Professor Adelman began his criminal justice career as a parole officer for the State of New York. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in psychology, from Columbia University, and his law degree from New York University School of Law.
Since 1998, Professor Adelman has taught law at the University of Arkansas School of Law and the University of Tulsa College of Law. He has been appointed Visiting Associate Professor of Law for the 2008-2009 academic year at Albany Law School. Professor Adelman regularly writes legal case commentaries for APPA’s Perspectives and ACA’s Corrections Today, as well as for other legal and criminal justice journals. Professor Adelman served for two decades as legal counsel to several Massachusetts criminal justice agencies, including the Parole Board, the Department of Correction, the State Police, and the Office of Public Safety. He is the former chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association Committee on Corrections, Probation, and Parole, and has taught and trained judges, prosecutors, defenders, police, and criminal justice personnel on a wide variety of topics including the law of sentencing, corrections, parole, and probation, drunk driving, civil rights, governmental tort liability, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He is also co-author of a newly revised edition of a law textbook, Criminal Procedure: the Post-Investigation Process, to be published by LexisNexis Publishing later this year.
