APAI came to life in the early 1970s when a group of international colleagues in the field of parole expressed a strong interest in discussing best practices and current issues surrounding early release, reentry into the community and public safety.

While members may have different parole legislation, policies and regulations, we all share the fundamental value in the belief of a person's ability to change and the conviction that gradual, supervised reintegration into our communities is an effective protection of public safety.

Our membership is comprised of both individuals and organizations. Parole professionals from more than 38 countries have participated in our Annual Conferences, trainings and audio conferences. Member benefits include networking with colleagues, an archived bulletin board of commonly-asked questions, listservs, priority access to trainings and education, discounted rates at APAI conferences and a quarterly newsletter.
